KYRGYZ STATE MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS

After G. Aitiev the main art treasury of Kyrgyzstan. The gallery, later renamed to be the Kyrgyz State Museum of Fine Arts, has been opened on January 1, 1935.

The main collection of the museum are 72 works of Russian artists, brought from the State Tretyakov Gallery and Narkompros RSFSR and selected personally by the founder of the museum as well as of the Kyrgyz paintings, Semen Chuikov. Starting from the 1st Republican Exhibition in 1934, the museum funds are systematically being enlarged by works of artists of Kyrgyzstan. Today the museum collection includes over 17.5 thousands of storage units.

The museum exhibited contemporary art for the first time in 1997.
